The idea of interconnectedness

bell hooks' idea, relayed so simply in the early paragraphs of her essay on "love ethic," is that all people should and could live with the knowledge that our actions affect those around us and all over the world.

She writes, at the top of page 88, "We do this by choosing to work with individuals we admire and respect; by committing to give our all to relationships; by embracing a global vision wherein we see our lives and our fate as intimately connected to those of everyone else on the planet."

As basic as this thought is, it couldn't be more ground-breaking to me. It resonated so deeply with me because I feel it's so simple an idea, yet so hard for people to truly embrace.
